I thought I'd put out a recommendation for Prodigy Math:
https://www.prodigygame.com/Play/

It doesn't really teach the math, but is great for skills practice, and it's highly engaging for the kids. It's designed like a video game, with

characters and quests and the kids get to accumulate items and level-up etc. The game is free, but has a membership option for those who would like to pay to have their kids get cooler virtual items. I think it covers grades K-8, but don't quote me on that :)

My ADHD son hates math, and usually tantrums when a math question is put in front of him, but he'll ask to go on Prodigy because the game play is so engaging.

It is said that "Introverted Kids Need to Learn to Speak Up at School"

You might want to read the article in http://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2013/02/introverted-kids-need-to-learn-to-speak-up-at-school/272960/

Where it says that "every child should be graded on class participation -- and parents don't help their children when they argue otherwise. "

The title is assertive, but the article is well reasoned and provides some thoughful suggestions on helping the introverted get those "other skills" for when they are needed.

==MATHEMATICS==
Hello mathies,
We used www.mathfrog.ca online when my kids were a little younger (grades 4-6) but now I've realized there is an older version called Wired Math for grades 7 - 10. It has some nice online games and activities to help with the Ontario math curriculum for these grades and best of all, it's from an authoritative source (University of Waterloo math department) and it's free!

Have you heard of Life of Fred? http://www.stanleyschmidt.com/FredGauss/index2.html We've not tried it yet (my oldest is just turning 7) but I hear absolutely amazing things from most everyone who has. It is definitely on our list for the not-too-distant future for my math-loving girl.
A relative of mine just sent me a link to a youtube site called www.mathtv.com
There are many tutorial videos on different math topics. You can also find all sorts of video tutorials on Science, English and all kinds of other topics on youtube that are being done by college profs and highschool teachers.

This is a really cool site - the game my kids are playing is called "Gears". It really teaches how gears work. Kind of like "The Incredible Machine" (which of course is another really cool game that teaches mechanics).

Here is the link for downloading the curriculum documents: http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/teachers/curriculum.html
The point of access for elementary, by subject is at http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/curriculum/elementary/subjects.html
There are many supplementary exemplars and other resources.
Hard copies of all of these can be ordered through Service Ontario. Go to to
https://www.publications.serviceontario.ca/ecom/MasterServlet/ViewMainHandler?loggedIN=false&selectedLocale=en

Some are free, others are not.
If you delight in hard work, you can use the on-line ordering process. For that you should create an account (select that item on the left of the screen) for yourself before you start ordering. Then use the "advanced search" tool (again on the left). The site does NOT allow use of meaningful search terms - at which point I gave up and use the document names (from the Min Ed website) and called the 1-800 number (416) 326-5300, for 8:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday. They are far easier than the on line agony.

Canadian homeschooling families, national and local resources, and timely news. (Did you hear that a Canadian homeschooler won the Nobel Prize for Physics? See my link above for a piece about that exciting bit of news!!)

For amusement - An enlightening article about "relative smartness"
http://dinosaurs.about.com/od/dinosaurbasics/a/dinosmarts.htm

part of it reads "... scientists have developed a new way to evaluate the intelligence of extinct (as well as living) animals. The Encephalization Quotient, or EQ, measures the size of a creature's brain with the size of the rest of its body, and compares this ratio against other species of roughly the same size.
Part of what makes us human is the enormous size of our brains compared to our bodies; our EQ is a hefty 5. That may not seem like such a big number, so let's look at the EQs of some other creatures: on this scale, wildebeests weigh in at .68, African elephants at .63, and opossums at .39. As you might expect, monkeys have higher EQs: 1.5 for a red colobus, 2.5 for a capuchin. Dolphins are the only animals on the planet with EQs even close to those of humans; the bottlenose comes in at 3.6. (EQ scales vary considerably; some set human EQ at about 8, with the EQ of other creatures scaled proportionally.)" and more along the same lines
